A Whole Lot of Minor Irritations

Saturday Emma and I were set to have a girls day out just the two of us. Since Abby was born we try and do this when we get our tax return because a. we can finally afford to do something nice and b. we don't get time alone a lot anymore because of Abby. We were going to go to Gene Juarez in Bellevue for a Manicure/Pedicure and Emma was getting her hair trimmed. Then we were going to go hang out at Bellevue Square for a while and then eat dinner at The Melting Pot which we love.

We stopped at Starbucks in the morning before our appointment because I needed caffeine and Emma needed to use the restroom. The women's was taken and we were running a bit behind so we had to use the men's. A minor irritation but whatever we had to get gas so we hurried along. The gas station was busy! I finally found a pump only to see a note on it saying credit was broken but debit worked. Well no problem I only use debit. The stupid machine wouldn't take my QFC rewards card or my debit card it kept telling me to see attendant. I hit it with my wallet and ended up hurting my hand. I had to leave Emma in the car and run inside only to be informed that the machine wouldn't take anything so I had to come inside. Another irritation.

I put the address for Gene Juarez in my GPS and off we went 10 minutes behind schedule but the GPS said we'd make it just in time. However, the GPS wasn't accounting for the wintery mix of snow and rain I was driving through. I passed a building off the road that said Gene Juarez so I pulled off and called the salon they informed me it was their corporate building and to follow my GPS. We got to the building to find out it was pay parking. Another irritation and I prayed they validate. Inside they greeted us warmly and we waited chatting with some nice ladies while picking out some colors. Emma picked orange her favorite color and because I'm exhausted of the rain and winter I chose a spring lilac. They did a good job and the lady who did Emma's hair was great but the nail technician added some items to the front desk that I was thinking of getting. As we were checking out I wondered why my bill was so high. It wasn't until after I had paid that I found out that they automatically add things onto your bill instead of just setting it up at the front and letting you make up your mind. I had no idea! I had already changed my mind the items were too expensive and I didn't want them. The manager reversed the charges but again a larger irritation.

We get to the mall and parking during a Saturday is always sucky but at this point my patience is a little thin. Emma's in the back seat chirping and talking a mile a minute like she does and my back is hurting from sitting on the uncomfortable manicure/pedicure chairs. The chairs could move any part of my body I swear it was like going to the Gynecologist! Once we get inside I call The Melting Pot and I find out they only have reservations for 3pm and 9:30pm and it's currently 2pm. I'm not keeping the girl out that late so we take the 3pm one. I needed new panties so we hurried to Victoria's Secret and did a quick stop in the Sanrio store then we had to go. Emma was not happy that we had to leave without going to the Lego store and she was making her displeasure known.

We got to The Melting Pot a bit early but parking is always iffy there you never know if you're going to get a spot or have to search so I chose to be a bit early. Cheese course was great, the salad was yummy and Emma tried a Ceasar which she liked! Then came the entree which is where we ran into the problem. Generally we go with the broth that you don't have to pay extra for but Emma says it is to spicy for her probably pepper in it she's a bit sensitive to black pepper. So I decided to try the oil I remember liking it and it had been a really long time since I'd had it. Bad call. The batter stuck to the forks, the batter fell off the meat, the oil boiled over and while I took Emma with me and I ran to find someone the meat and lobster in the oil burned. We got food and I was trying to cook what was left so I could take it home but it was taking forever. I finally got it done and set it aside. We got to desert and I was so depressed I barely ate any of it. Perfectly good cheesecake barely eaten, Emma devoured all the rice crispy treats and I ate the strawberries.

I'm spent, the day feels like a disaster to me, I feel so let down because I had such high hopes. It was Emma's first manicure/pedicure and I love spending time with her when it's just us. Not to mention that my back was in full flare mode. I knew I wouldn't be able to go back to the mall I would barely make it home in one piece I hurt so badly. Emma was not happy. Between leaving the mall and having to go home before what she felt was an appropriate time she had a melt down. She's crying as I'm walking half dragging her down the street and shoving her into the car. I make sure she's buckled and then we're off I have the music up loud enough to drown out her crying and whining because I just cannot handle it. I was at the end of my rope. We were halfway home before we stopped. As we were walking up to our door I stopped her and explained why we went home. I told her that we had been out since 9:30 that morning and it was well after 7pm now. I was tired, I hurt and she owed me an apology for the way she reacted and treated me.

She apologized, said "I love you mommy" and gave me a hug. After walking through the door when asked by daddy she said she had a great day. From the look on my face Carey knew my version of the day was vastly different. Even now asking her she says that she had a great day.
